COME AND BRING YOUR FRIENDS!
EN: A strong-willed Dutch woman recalls her life in this uplifting picture. Antonia is an elderly woman who wakes up one morning and realizes that this is the last day of her life. She begins to tell her story in flashbacks, beginning with her return to the family farm after World War II with her daughter, Danielle. For the next fifty years, a variety of colorful characters come and go on the farm. Danielle becomes a painter, and decides she wants a child but no husband, so Antonia arranges the proper donation. Danielle gives birth to Therese, who later has her own child, Sarah, also without a husband. Antonia and her descendants come to symbolize the freedom of independent females, with little need for men in their lives.

FtWTF – FEMALE TO WHAT THE FUCK by Cordula Thym and Katharina Lampert | Austria 2015 | documentary 92 min | German with English Subtitles
The documentary FtWTF is a precise encounter with the theme of gender transgression, whereby the gender border is crossed in the same direction each time: from a specific starting point (female/woman) to a temporarily open end point („what the fuck“). The filmmakers portray six people who for different reasons take on a transgender identity and live it out in different and changing ways.
In talks that are serious yet nonetheless not anxious, which draw us in, the protagonists confront the conditions, consequences, and sometimes also bizarre circumstances of their decision. The way they do so is disarmingly open and often humorous, in a manner that is amazing to see. Due to the gorgeous images, deep insights into gender construction and sexuality are communicated with ease; and the protagonists‘ obvious trust in the film project can be attributed to the directors‘ impressive expertise.

by Bobbi Jo Hart, USA 2016, 92 min, English

Exploring universal themes of identity, dreams, family, loss and love, Rebels on Pointe is the first-ever feature documentary celebrating the world famous Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. The all male, comic ballet company was founded over 40 years ago on the heels of New York’s Stonewall riots and and has a diverse cult following around the world. The film juxtaposes behind-the-scenes access, rich archives and history, intimate character-driven stories, and amazing dance performances shot in North America, Europe and Japan. Rebels on Pointe is a creative blend of gender, diversity, passion and purpose. A story which ultimately proves that a ballerina is not only a woman dancing — but an act of rebellion in a tutu.
